Since I am in the very early stages of learning machining I figured the best way to learn how to use them was to build something. I decided on the engine below as my first project. It is built entirely from bar stock and took me several months to complete. Some parts were made 3 or 4 times before I could get it right. There are still a lot of mistakes in the engine but rather than go back and redo them I decided to leave it as is, kind of a benchmark to see how much I can improve my skills.
I have started on another engine by Elmer and it is called a Wooden Beam Engine. I will post pictures of my progress as I get further into the project.
Steam Engine: This is my first attempt. It is from Elmer Verberg plans and is called a Horizontal Mine Engine. It runs well on compressed air. I have yet to try it on steam.
